Founder, Podcast Host - Shhh I'm Learning

Martha is a self-proclaimed language nerd, proud introvert, and cat fan. When she isn’t buried in books or thinking about how language works, you can find her exploring one of North Carolina’s beautiful parks, trying out a new coffee shop, or watching sports. Having studied sociolinguistics (the study of people’s attitudes towards dialects and accents and how language is used in society), she’s passionate about sharing the value of each dialect and language and what they have to teach us about each other, as well as breaking stereotypes and being more open to differences. Since she's lived in North Carolina her entire life, Martha also celebrates her family's strong roots in both the Appalachian and Coastal Plains regions of the state affectionately known by some as "Dialect Heaven." She enjoys incorporating a variety of languages into her daily life — at a minimum, English and Spanish (yes, she comes from a country where Spanish is spoken by people from many different backgrounds) — while sprinkling in Italian, Portuguese, Japanese, Irish, Hebrew, and Welsh as much as possible. Martha is also the creator and host of
